Crawl, Walk, Run

http://youtu.be/cDBB3mpiAQU

The blog is having a problem with my video, so copy and paste the link above into your address bar to take you to this weeks video blog entry.

For those who are trying to become healthy, it is a process, not instantaneous.  For this, I have a simple saying that helps to keep you on track with your weight loss and health journey.

CRAWL, WALK, RUN

When you are a baby, you first have to learn to crawl.  It's tough at first, people keep looking at you expecting you to do something soon, and finally something clicks in our minds to move!  So we begin to crawl.  After weeks or months of crawling, we master it.  It becomes just another thing to us, we get faster at crawling, but you can only progress so much while in the crawling stage, then next you learn to walk.  You find a way to get on your feet, and take one step in front of the other.  At first, it helps to have someone to hold on to, then you venture out on your own.  Last, as we grow, we begin to walk faster and faster and suddenly, we are running!

In your health journey, you have to begin with a crawl.  Simple things first, like swapping regular soda to diet, changing the way you prepare foods, wheat bread instead of white, and looking for healthy alternatives.  But, like crawling, there is only so far you can push yourselves while using this method, and its time to move on.  This is the walk.  You may have to begin to cut portions, become a little stricter on your eating habits, and begin an exercise routine.  This will be the toughest to learn and maintain.  Like learning to walk, it is easier to have someone there with you in the beginning to help you.  A friend, spouse, co-worker, any will do to help you have some accountability and push you to do well.  However, it's not a must, but a definite advantage.  But there will come a time when you will realize, you can't always walk while having someone hold your hand and you will have to break away and take this burden up on yourself.  Someone shouldn't always push you to begin exercising or eating healthier, and it will be you who determines your own outcome, not others around you.

If you can overcome the walk, the run is last.  This step is for those that have seen results, plateaued and need to see further results.  This is where you need to begin to incorporate more exercise into your life, a little less leniency on your "off days," an a little more determination to keep it going.  But the best thing is this, if you can make it to the running stage, and last a couple of weeks, it gets SOOOOOO much easier because you should be seeing results, and let's face it, results are ADDICTIVE.  You need to begin researching foods and how they metabolize in your body, it becomes alot of work, but you will begin to push yourselves in ways you never thought you would!!!!  Go get it tiger!

Substitution suggestion will come soon!!!!

Getting Started

So, the video above pretty much sums it all up.  The first step should be wanting to become healthy.  It's not about just about needing it, but you have to want it.  I knew I needed to lose weight at 300 lb, 350 lb, and definitely at 400 lb, but until I truly wanted to make a difference in my life, it didn't matter if I needed it or not!!!

You can't want to lose weight to impress girls, or to get a boyfriend, to get noticed, or to get promotions.  Those things are ridiculous reasons to lose weight.  Because more often than not, you won't obtain them based on pounds shed.  And when you fail, it will set you back and you will find your reason to lose weight now worthless.  It has to be for YOU!!!!  I've learned that, no matter how much weight I lose, I'm not going to have women beating at my door!  Ha, so, to have my hopes set on that would be worthless.  But seeing a healthier me, more active and fit Jeremy helps to push me to achieve goals and set newer, higher goals that I never knew I could achieve!!!

Let me be honest, to all the overweight, low self-esteem people out there.  Let me preface this by saying I am one of you, have been for years!  I have battled self-esteem my whole life due to weight and looks.  It is not your weight that holds you back, it is not your looks, it is the attitude of yourself.  Not always how the world views you, but how do you view yourself?  Get some confidence, it works wonders!  It will pour out in all aspects of your life, a lesson I'm learning for the first time in my life.

With all that said, be motivated by the right reasons.  Make sure your reasons are sufficient, that they will sustain you throughout the entirety of your weight loss journey, and get out there and get started!

Journey to the New You...

Well, let's start this off by saying welcome to my new blog.  I am Jeremy Davis, and have recently decided to make a blog to log some of the information and journey on which I took to become a healthier, more complete, well rounded me.

Now, this will obviously feature much information and accomplishments I have achieved, but first and foremost, I want you to know it is not all about me.  I can only do what god has granted me the ability to do through His strength, but thank God He allowed me to travel this journey!

Two years ago I weighed in at a whopping 405 pounds wearing a size 52 in the waist, that's big even for someone with a 6'1" frame!  I had been overweight and obese most all of my life.  I remember weighing over 200 lbs in 5th grade and hitting the 300 mark in the 8th grade!  Being fat was nothing new to me, but it had begun to get old to me.  And I really grew tired of my life and wanted something better.

I decided one day to begin a weight loss journey around July of 2010.  I set out with a goal to lose 120 lbs.  I thought it was impossible, but gave me something to shoot towards.  Through watching how I eat, exercising, and having a little bit of knowledge, I have been able to meet that goal and surpass it.  VERY SURPRISING TO ME.

Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to be blogging about things that I face, because I am not yet where I want to be myself.  I will also blog and give tips and tricks I have learned along the way.  I am no professional, I don't have a magic diet, and I don't take a magic pill.  But, I have a desire to change, a will to make it happen, and have learned discipling along the way.  If Jeremy Davis can lose weight, ANYONE can lose weight.  Hope you enjoy!
