For those who are trying to become healthy, it is a process, not instantaneous. For this, I have a simple saying that helps to keep you on track with your weight loss and health journey.
CRAWL, WALK, RUN
When you are a baby, you first have to learn to crawl. It's tough at first, people keep looking at you expecting you to do something soon, and finally something clicks in our minds to move! So we begin to crawl. After weeks or months of crawling, we master it. It becomes just another thing to us, we get faster at crawling, but you can only progress so much while in the crawling stage, then next you learn to walk. You find a way to get on your feet, and take one step in front of the other. At first, it helps to have someone to hold on to, then you venture out on your own. Last, as we grow, we begin to walk faster and faster and suddenly, we are running!
In your health journey, you have to begin with a crawl. Simple things first, like swapping regular soda to diet, changing the way you prepare foods, wheat bread instead of white, and looking for healthy alternatives. But, like crawling, there is only so far you can push yourselves while using this method, and its time to move on. This is the walk. You may have to begin to cut portions, become a little stricter on your eating habits, and begin an exercise routine. This will be the toughest to learn and maintain. Like learning to walk, it is easier to have someone there with you in the beginning to help you. A friend, spouse, co-worker, any will do to help you have some accountability and push you to do well. However, it's not a must, but a definite advantage. But there will come a time when you will realize, you can't always walk while having someone hold your hand and you will have to break away and take this burden up on yourself. Someone shouldn't always push you to begin exercising or eating healthier, and it will be you who determines your own outcome, not others around you.
If you can overcome the walk, the run is last. This step is for those that have seen results, plateaued and need to see further results. This is where you need to begin to incorporate more exercise into your life, a little less leniency on your "off days," an a little more determination to keep it going. But the best thing is this, if you can make it to the running stage, and last a couple of weeks, it gets SOOOOOO much easier because you should be seeing results, and let's face it, results are ADDICTIVE. You need to begin researching foods and how they metabolize in your body, it becomes alot of work, but you will begin to push yourselves in ways you never thought you would!!!! Go get it tiger!
Substitution suggestion will come soon!!!!
